In this tutorial we’re going to show you how to create a very slick glossy text effect with it’s reflection!

1. Open up a new document, mine is 800×200 with a white background and 72 dpi resolution.

2. I’ve used the ‘Impact’ font, size 60pt. I used the set the letter spacing to -30. If you don’t know how to get letter spacing, go to Window > Character. find the box with AV beside it (like the one pictured).

I set my text color to #0072fd. You should have something simple like so:

3. Create a new layer, on this layer use the eliptical marquee tool to draw a circle over your text as pictured. Use the ‘Paint Bucket Tool’ to fill this ellipse with the same color as your background – in my example white (#ffffff).

4. Hold the CTRL key and click on your text layer to make it a selection in your project. With the cirlce layer selected in your layers palette, press Select > Inverse, then press Ctrl-X. This will have deleted the parts that you don’t need.

5. With your circle layer selected, set the ‘Fill’ to 0%.

Double click on the circle layer to bring up blending options, and click on gradient overlay. Set the gradient from white to transparent (or whatever your foreground color is to transparent), the direction to -90, and the scale to 150, like so.

6. Click on the text layer again to bring up blending options.
Click on stroke and choose a darker colour that what your text is, set the size to 1 pixels.

7. Duplicate your text layer (select it and press CTRL + J). Flip the new copied layer vertically (select it and go to ‘Edit > transform > Flip vertical’ on the main menu) and move the layer down so it’s a couple of pixels away from your original text layer.

We’re almost done, create a new layer and make a rectangular selection (by using the rectangular marquee tool) set your foreground colour to white (or whatever color your background is), and draw a gradient from the bottom of the selection, to over the top of the selection, you may have to repeat this a few times to accomplish the effect.

Click back on the duplicated text layer, and set the opacity to 30%.
Your finished product should now look like this:
